MICKEY 17 TRAILER: ROBERT PATTINSON SHINES IN BONG JOON HO’S COMEBACK AFTER PARASITE

Mickey 17 Trailer: Robert Pattinson finds portraying death on screen particularly demanding, having faced over 17 deaths in Bong Joon Ho’s adaptation of the sci-fi novel Mickey 17. This film marks Bong's highly anticipated follow-up to his Oscar-winning Parasite, with Pattinson playing Mickey, a disposable worker labeled as an Expendable. Mickey is part of a mission to colonise the icy planet Niflheim, where he undertakes hazardous tasks deemed too dangerous for regular humans, leading to multiple fatalities. The impressive cast also features Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie, known for her role in Blink Twice.

Mickey 17 is an expendable, a disposable worker on a human mission to colonize the icy planet Niflheim. When one version of him dies, a new body is created, retaining most of his memories. The trailer features Mickey signing up for an unconventional job: dying for a living. He faces multiple deaths as scientists test different versions of him. However, when two or more of his versions coexist simultaneously, chaos unfolds.

Bong's adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel not only reinterprets the story but also increases the number of deaths for the main character. Originally announced in January 2022 before the novel's February release, the film's premiere has been postponed from March 29, 2024, to 2025. The official synopsis for Mickey 17 reads, " The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living."

Produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company, and Bong’s Offscreen, Inc., Mickey 17 features an impressive behind-the-scenes team. This includes Oscar-nominated cinematographer Darius Khondji, production designer Fiona Crombie, editor Jin-mo Yang, costume designer Catherine George, and visual effects supervisor Dan Glass. The film's score is composed by Jae-il Jung, who is recognized for his work on Parasite and Squid Game.

At the 2024 CinemaCon, Bong noted that Pattinson’s casting was influenced by the actor’s intense screen presence.
