FROM THE RING TO THE PAGE: RONDA ROUSEY LAUNCHES GRAPHIC NOVEL PROJECT

Ronda Rousey, the multifaceted star known for her dominance in UFC, WWE, and the Olympics, is stepping into a new arena: comic books. Artists Writers and Artisans announced Thursday the upcoming Kickstarter campaign for Rousey’s graphic novel debut, Expecting the Unexpected.

The ex-WWE star calls on her supporters to help bring her imaginative story to life through a new Kicksarter initiative

The project pairs Rousey’s writing with art by Eisner and Ringo Award-winning comic book artist Mike Deodato Jr. The graphic novel will draw on Rousey’s extensive combat sports background and blend it with Deodato’s martial arts expertise to create high-octane action sequences.

Rousey revealed in an interview with Wrestling Inc, that her new graphic novel was conceived as a blueprint for a potential action film starring herself. Rousey said the story, which blends her combat sports experience with her life as a mother, was designed to eventually transition to the big screen.

The former MMA fighter noted the novel’s fight scenes were meticulously crafted for authenticity and that the main character, “Mom,” bears a striking resemblance to her. The book, a passion project for Rousey, was crafted during late-night hours while her daughter slept. It offers a unique perspective by placing a pregnant woman in a traditionally male-dominated action role. The fight scenes, meticulously choreographed for authenticity, reflect Rousey’s extensive martial arts training.

Furthermore, Rousey has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund her upcoming comic book, Expecting the Unexpected. The project has already raised more than $6,000 of its $20,000 goal.

Backers can choose from a variety of reward tiers, including digital and physical copies of the comic, signed merchandise, and even a chance to appear as a character in the book. For a $2,500 pledge, up to 10 contributors can become enemy assassins defeated by the comic’s protagonist.

Rousey is scheduled to attend San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, where she will discuss the project and offer exclusive rewards for backers. The Kickstarter campaign is set to conclude 33 days after launch.
