VETERAN MUSIC DIRECTOR VIPIN RESHAMMIYA, FATHER OF HIMESH RESHAMMIYA, PASSES AWAY AT 87
Veteran music director Vipin Reshammiya, father of singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya, passed away at the age of 87. According to reports, Vipin breathed his last on Wednesday evening at 8:30 pm. He had been undergoing treatment at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to breathing issues and other age-related health problems.
The sad news was confirmed by family friend Vanita Thapar, who told ETimes, "Yes, he had a breathing problem. He was in Kokilaben and passed away today at 8:30 pm." She went on to say, "I have been a family friend for many years, more like family. I used to call him papa since the days when he was producing TV serials. Later, he became a music director, and Himesh followed in his footsteps. We shared a very close bond. Anup Singh, the numerologist, and I were also very close to him." Vipin's last rites are scheduled to take place on September 19 in Juhu.
In 2021, during an appearance on Indian Idol 12, Himesh had spoken about his father and shared some touching memories. He even posted a heartfelt video on Instagram, recalling how his father had composed a beautiful, unreleased track sung by legendary vocalists Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar.
Himesh had captioned the post, "My dad, composer Vipin Reshammiya, had composed a beautiful track quite a few years back sung by the legendary Lataji and Kishore Kumar ji. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be released then." He added that the song was one of the finest classic melodies ever composed and shared his excitement about finally bringing the song to the public.
Himesh expressed his deep admiration for his father, saying, "My dad had composed it with a lot of love, and I’m happy that this song will be coming out soon for all of you. Give it all your love when it comes out and you hear it. We shot for the Kishore Kumar 100 songs special this week, and the very talented singers of Indian Idol sang beautifully as always."
Vipin Reshammiya was not only Himesh's father but also his mentor. In interviews, Himesh has often spoken about how his father recognized his musical talent from a young age, eventually deciding to set aside his own dream of becoming a music director to focus on nurturing Himesh's abilities.
Vipin also played a crucial role in Himesh's early career, having composed music for one of Salman Khan’s films. It was during this time that Salman met Himesh and took notice of his music. This pivotal meeting marked the beginning of Himesh’s journey as a successful composer, with Salman backing him for the film Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. Salman would go on to play a key role in guiding and supporting Himesh's rise in the industry.
