THE 67TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS FACES 'UNCERTAINTY' DUE TO LOS ANGELES WILDFIRES

A series of wildfires in California have wreaked havoc, destroying acres of land, burning homes and forcing thousands to evacuate their neighbourhoods. While the wildfires continue to devastate parts of the state, many Hollywood events, including award ceremonies and movie premieres, have been postponed or cancelled. However, uncertainties still loom over the fate of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

The 2025 Grammys were originally scheduled for Sunday, February 2, at Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. Considered one of the biggest nights of music, the star-studded event usually celebrates the exceptional talent in the industry in the past year. This year, however, the situation is different as the people in Los Angeles are still reeling from the havoc caused by the wildfires.

With just weeks remaining for the award ceremony, reports have surfaced in the media stating that the organisers have been considering postponing the CBS show or turning it into a fundraiser. A senior television executive revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that, given the city’s overall disaster status to date, the Grammys will likely be pushed to a later date.

Another source told the media outlet that the situation in the coming days will determine the fate of Grammys 2025. Meanwhile, the head of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr., is said to be considering multiple possible scenarios.

Along with the uncertainty surrounding the 67th Grammy Awards, there are also plans being made to organise a benefit concert to raise funds for those who were affected by the wildfires. The event, organised by MusiCares, the Grammys’ own foundation, would take place days leading up to the scheduled date of the awards ceremony. Hosted by Live Nation, the Azoff family, and AEG Presents, the concert will take place on January 30 at the Intuit Dome. The organisers are still discussing the participating artists and broadcast partners.

The same report further stated the challenges of organising such a large-scale event in the wake of a natural disaster go beyond just the logistics. Many musicians have been severely impacted by the wildfires, with some losing their instruments, label staff and publicists. Billie Eilish and The Weeknd are among the artists who the wildfires in Los Angeles have impacted.

Earlier, the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, the nominations for the 97th Academy Awards, the BAFTA tea party and WGA Award nominations were among some of the events that were scheduled last week or this week and have either been postponed or cancelled.
