SAIRA BANU CELEBRATES RE-RELEASE OF PADOSAN; RECALLS SHOOTING EXPERIENCE: ‘HAD TO PAUSE FILMING BECAUSE I COULDN’T STOP LAUGHING’

As the trend of re-releases sweeps through India, with nearly every industry capitalising on it, director Jyoti Swaroop's Hindi musical comedy Padosan (1968) has also received a second chance at the box office. Featuring Sunil Dutt, Saira Banu, Mehmood, Kishore Kumar, Mukri, Raj Kishore and Keshto Mukherjee, Padosan was among the films that made a comeback this week, along with Bollywood classics such as Tumbbad (2018) and Veer-Zaara (2004).

Following the film's re-release, actor Saira Banu recently took to Instagram to honour Padosan, describing it as "incredibly close to her heart." In her post, she shared posters of the movie and reflected on how much she "loved and enjoyed every minute" of working on it.

She also revealed that after her marriage to actor Dilip Kumar on October 11, 1966, the then 22-year-old Saira Banu stepped away from her career. It was this film, however, that marked her return to acting, thanks to Mehmood's persistent encouragement.

Saira Banu wrote on Instagram, "I was thrilled to know that Padosan, a film incredibly close to my heart, is being re-released in theatres. This movie is not only dearest to me but a cherished piece of cinematic history that I believe the new generation should experience. It’s a brilliant showcase of exceptional artists brought to life by Dutt Saab, Mehmood Bhai, Kishore Ji, and many more."

The actor added, "Reflecting on Padosan, I feel blessed for the opportunity to have been a part of it, especially given the circumstances at the time. After my marriage, I had taken a step back from my professional career, and it was only thanks to Mehmood Bhai’s persistent persuasion and the considerate arrangements made to facilitate the shooting in Madras that I agreed to join the project. The film’s cast, including the unforgettable Dutt Saab, who humorously questioned the departure from his usual glamorous roles, and the amazing Kishore Ji, made the experience truly memorable. The on-set laughter and camaraderie were so intense that at times, we had to pause filming because I couldn’t stop laughing."

Saira also wrote, "It’s heartening to see Padosan celebrated once again, and I look forward to sharing more anecdotes about this remarkable film, which remains a highlight of my career and a joyous part of the cinematic legacy. ❤️😊."

Reacting to the post, celebrity fashion designer Manish Malhotra wrote, "Fabulous and a timeless film 💖💞." Saira, who played the role of Bindu in the film. added in the comment section, "Loved and enjoyed every minute doing PADOSAN ❤️."
